Where to Elope in Ontario - 10 Location ideas

Ontario has so much to offer. If you’re considering an elopement I know it can be daunting to find a location, so I’ve compiled a list of the 10 best elopement locations in Ontario. Ranging in price and privacy, there’s a large variety to choose from. Without further ado, here are the locations!

1. Bruce Peninsula

The Bruce Peninsula has a special place in my heart. It’s a popular destination in the summer, so be sure to plan accordingly. The Big Tub Lighthouse is featured in the first photo during sunrise, but you could also say your vows here during sunset. The second and third photo take place at The Grotto. It’s a popular space in the year round but you can venture away from the main area to a more secluded beach with beautiful views. There are many other places to explore in Tobermory, but these would be my two favourite spots for an elopement.

2. Muskoka

Evan and Haley got married at Camp Tamarack where they met, but there are so many areas in Muskoka to choose from. Camping locations make a great option if you’re looking for an adventure. Some other great elopement spots are Georgian Bay Islands National Park, Hardy Lake Provincial Park, Six Mile Lake Provincial Park, or even Algonquin Provincial Park. The provincial parks offer beautiful views of nature and you can find remote locations to hold your ceremony.

3. Pinery Provincial Park

The Pinery Provincial Park boasts sand dunes and beautiful views of the water. It’s very similar to The Sand Banks Provincial Park in Prince Edward County, but the big bonus is that it’s right on lake Huron so the views of the water are crystal blue. It’s often referred to as Canada’s “Florida”. The views of the sunset are perfect with an open view facing West as the sun goes down. The Sand Banks are protected so if you plan to elope here be sure to follow designated paths and do no harm to the natural environment.

4. Prince Edward County Airbnb

Prince Edward County has risen in popularity becoming the new “hip destination”. You can rent a local Airbnb to elope, or take a trip to the Sandbanks Provincial park. Either way you’ll be sure to find something new and spectacular. I personally find the converted old churches to be an amazing destination! You can use your Airbnb for your stay, and get married outside with a simple, beautiful view.

5. Woolwich Dam

Woolwich Dam is located just shortly North of Guelph. Maddie & Aaron changed their wedding from BC to this location in September of 2020. The tree tunnel made the perfect backdrop for their ceremony, and they ended being so happy with their wedding photos. The location offers a lot of variety, from the tree tunnel, lush wildflowers, forests, and even a lake. You can surely find the perfect spot to elope here!

6. Scarborough Bluffs

This is a popular destination for couples and photographers alike. Be sure to arrive early to “claim” your spot on the beach. Consider the early morning or a weekday to ensure you have a little more privacy, and keep in mind the parking lot can fill up fast during peak times. If you plan accordingly, you will find this location an amazing backdrop for your elopement, especially if it is novel for you. You can venture around and capture some really amazing adventurous photos here. Always check to see if there are any film events happening to ensure you have access to the beach.

7. Killarney Provincial Park

This is another destination that is very popular, you really can’t beat this view during the fall! Picture yourself on the edge of the cliffs, canoeing, and soaking in the beautiful Ontario landscape. If you plan to elope here the best option is to hike The Crack to get the most amazing views. The hike takes about 2 hours to get up to the top so leave yourself plenty of time and bring your hiking shoes!

8. Dundurn Castle

This is absolutle one of my favourite spots for photos. The property is STUNNING and full of history. You can even shoot on the property for free if you have under 10 people. If you have more than 10 people you will need to book a permit here.

9. Mediterranean Garden - RBG

The Mediterranean Garden at the RBG in Hamilton is available for intimate elopement ceremonies, and you can also access Hendrie Park, as shown in the second photo. The green house is the perfect spot for any season, and offers an intimate earthy atmosphere. There a lot of diversity at the RBG and you can surely make your elopement here one to remember.

10. Private Property

A personal location offers sentiment that no other location can replicate. Consider a family members backyard, or even a cottage that you grew up going to. All you need to make this vision happen is a backyard large enough to fit your guests, and an intimate ceremony set up. If you have family members attending consider getting a tent to host your reception, and add personal touches anywhere you can. This option is a great way to extend your elopement and to include your family beyond the ceremony!
